About the project

Hörte Harbor – a destination on the south coast Hörte Harbor is a destination on the South Coast and a cultural heritage that must be preserved and developed. It is a matter for the entire municipality and all of Söderslätt.

Since 2008, Hörte Harbor Association has worked to develop Hörte Harbor into a vibrant harbor in the local area and into a harbor with strategic significance within the tourism industry on the South Coast. This has been achieved by combining a number of measures in collaboration and establishing a long-term foundation for the future. The development of Hörte Harbor has now also led to Skurup Municipality deciding to create a new detailed plan for Hörte Harbor in collaboration with Hörte Harbor Association and the restaurant owner who rents the harbor house with the adjacent business area from Hörte Harbor Association. This detailed plan is now complete and will be discussed on February 1, 2022, in the community planning committee to be sent out for consultation.

The harbor house has undergone extensive renovation and is the base for a now well-established restaurant, Hörte Brygga. Municipal water has been brought to the harbor. A mini wastewater treatment plant has been installed. An exhibition about the harbor's history is being built up gradually. The association was granted support from Leader Söderslätt and Skurup Municipality to carry this out while several companies have sponsored the development of the harbor and the association's members have contributed many hundreds of hours of volunteer time in the harbor. The harbor association took over another building in the harbor in 2013. This building, which we have named the Fisherman's House, has been used by the association and professional fishermen in the harbor for many years. Now the Fisherman's House (cultural house) can be used year-round after renovation. The art tour returns annually as some artists exhibit here and solo exhibitions are recurring. It has also become a new old tradition to celebrate Walpurgis Night in the harbor, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This summer there were many visitors in the harbor and at the restaurant Hörte Brygga, which also this year launched a new project with ice cream made from local products. A much larger area has been weatherproofed so that the restaurant can have many seated guests even in rain. At the harbor square, we also tested the sale of locally grown products. This concept is planned to be further developed in 2022 with more vendors on site. Hörte Hamnförening has been working step by step to develop Hörte Hamn. We are now working to address the piers, pier heads, and quay edges. We applied for a 5-year permit to widen the western pier. This was granted by the County Administrative Board. This work was completed in 2019. Each year, the piers and pier heads become more and more exposed to the forces of the sea. We must now also timely address the eastern pier and the eastern pier head before it collapses completely. This is a prerequisite for the further development of the harbor. The County Administrative Board has granted Hörte Hamnförening permission to address the eastern pier and pier head in the same way we have done with the western pier. We plan to do this in two parts: 1. Strengthening and widening the eastern pier and making it more accessible. 2. Strengthening the eastern pier head. We gradually widen and strengthen the pier up to the pier head and reinforce this pier head in the same way as the western pier head. These measures are absolutely necessary and long-term and are also part of the work to preserve Hörte Hamn for future generations.

The project contributes to sustainable development by preserving the cultural environment in the long term. More visitors also bring increased revenue to businesses in the harbor. The project strengthens the harbor as a meeting place as more people can safely access the pier. More meetings between people are created. Visitors in the harbor meet fishermen, and the widening of the pier makes it a meeting place accessible to all.
