About the project

Svaneholm Castle and its surroundings is the largest visitor destination in Skurup municipality. For several years, intensive work has been underway to develop the castle and its surroundings into a destination for all. A common website www.svaneholmsslott.se has been developed where the various activities are made visible. At the castle, there is a castle museum run by Wemmenhögs Härads Fornminnes and Hembygdsförening and a popular restaurant has been established at the castle. Some also rent a boat and go fishing on Svaneholm Lake.

It is also very popular to walk or run around Svaneholm Lake on the 2.6 km long old hunting trail. Along the way, you also pass the Gardener's House where Skurup's Art and Craft Association in Mästers Galleri conducts various art exhibitions. In 2021, about 80,000 people walked the hunting trail around the lake. All of this combined has meant that the number of visitors in the Svaneholm area has increased. Not least during the pandemic when staycation became a term and the Svaneholm area a natural place for various experiences in the local environment.

To strengthen the Svaneholm area as a visitor destination and increase the service for visitors along the popular hunting trail, a service building with toilets is needed to improve accessibility for visitors. The toilet and service building should include accessible toilets and separate toilets but also other service functions. A toilet building previously existed at Rökhuset, which is located by the hunting trail. During the summer, a café operation is conducted in Rökhuset. The foundation of the previous toilets remains on the edge of the forest near the hunting trail and close to Rökhuset. This makes it possible to construct a service building in this environment. Within the project, we also want to address, replace, and renovate some of the crossings and bridges that exist along the hunting trail.
